Hi, I'm Ian!
I'm a Technical Product Manager and Multidisciplinary Researcher, and I'm passionate about both doing, and building tools to empower people to do, data science to unlock downstream social good.
Work and Research
I'm a co-founder of AI Squared, which I helped grow from an idea to a company valued at more than $60MM USD and, more importantly, an amazing team of >25 builders and leaders. At AI Squared I owned the entire lifecycle, from conception to deployment, of a suite of products designed to improve the speed to market - and therefore speed to value - of AI. In this role I was privileged to work with a world-class engineering and leadership team, and together we re-shaped how some of the largest and most complex private and public organizations are implement and benefit from the use of AI. In this role I was also able to continue my eclectic research career by contributing to a variety of research efforts encompassing human-machine teaming, trustworthy AI, and basic machine learning research.
A result of some of our basic research into developing sparse multitask/multimodal neural networks has led to the creation of the BeyondML project, which I have assisted in making compatible with both PyTorch and TensorFlow. This project is under active development and is the focus of ongoing research and development, and we are proud to have handed governance of the project to the Linux Foundation AI and Data in June 2022.

Education
I earned a BS in Exercise Physiology in 2016 at the University of Connecticut and an MS in Exercise Science in 2017 from Merrimack College. During this time I worked in the labs of Dr. William Kraemer and Dr. Michael Corcoran, where I studied the physical and neurological implications of physical activity in a variety of athletic and clinical populations. Following this, I ventured into unpacking neural contributions to balance control during walking in the lab of Dr. John Jeka at the University of Delaware. Most recently, I completed a Master's degree in AI Policy and Governance from the Elliott School of International Affairs at George Washington University.
